“People whom I idolized as a Leader”

Everyone of us has their own perception about leader. It could be someone that teach them or guide them in the right path of their lives or it could also be someone who influences other people to become a better person, to become productive and teaching other not just to become a good follower but also to become a good leader as well. For me I have listed here five great people who dedicated their own lives for the good of the people that they serve during their time. They put a great impact on the lives of many people and at some point I want to become like them. They serve as my inspiration to become a role model also to other people.

Mahatma Gandhi

I consider Mahatma Gandhi as a great leader because he has a lot of contribution in the lives of Indian people. He decided to throw himself into the political struggle for the basic rights of the Indian community. His immersion into the political mainstream of South Africa marked the beginning of his civil right advocacy. Gandhi remained in Africa for 20 years fighting for freedom and democracy. He would suffer humiliation and imprisonment from white South Africans but he was steadfast in his passive resistance for non-cooperation. When he return to India in 1915, he rallied and led the Indian people in the campaign for easing poverty, promoting human rights especially for women, economic self-reliance and most of all for the independence of India  from being domination. For his unrelenting campaign for the realization of his advocacies through peaceful means, he was put in prison on many occasions and he would always emerge triumphant in the end because of his grassroots support and non-violent stance on issues of human rights, economic development and nationalism.  Mahatma Gandhi played a pivotal role in the Indian struggle for Independence from the British rule. His policy of Satyagraha, or the non-violence, becomes a source of inspiration for several other movements in the world.

Anthony Tumanda

“A great leader’s courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion, not position.” - This quotation really describes what kind of leader is Bro. Anthony Tumanda. He is one of the elders in our Christian Congregation. I idolized him as a leader because he is very kind and concern to everyone. Even though he has a job, he still manages to organize everything in our congregation. Aside from the fact that he is a good preacher, he is also friendly to everyone. He makes it a point to communicate to everyone especially to us youth. He gives us advices and commendation when we accomplish something. When someone is in need in our congregation, weather it is financial, physical or spiritual need, he and his wife are always willing to offer help.

Ariel Salayog

Among us three siblings, he is the eldest. I definitely consider my brother as a good leader because he possesses a lot of qualities that a good leader should have. One of those qualities that I really admire on him is being a responsible brother. Because of the fact that our parents were not able to exercise their obligation, he’s the one who really makes a lot of ways just to sustain our needs most especially when it comes to financial and moral support. His leadership style is People oriented type of leadership because he always think for the good of his family. Furthermore, my brother also possesses a father figure quality because he focuses for positive emotional feelings of individuals like me. When I encounter some shortcomings or problems, he’s always there to give me undying advices and when I commit some mistakes, he try to open his ears and by the time that I need recommendation on how to act on such problems, he give it in a gentle manner – a manner that lightens the burden that I am experiencing and made me realize that mistakes are just part of our lives and I should accept that fact and make some necessary actions to correct it. At some point he becomes strict most especially to me. Sometimes he punish me or he make some disciplinary actions just to correct my mistakes but that behavior of him help me to reflect on what I’ve done and be fully aware that he’s really concern about me and what he wants is only the best for me. He is caring, loving, responsible, open minded and a bit strict leader.

Rodel Bautista

He is the best friend of my brother whose name is Ariel. I totally idolized him as a good leader because he always did his best in all aspects of his life. He has a lot of achievements and one of these is that he graduated in college with honor. When it comes to treating his family, he’s very obedient and a loving son. Today he is working as a consultant in a certain company. He is really a hard working person. Despite of his success, he never forgets to always put his feet on the ground. He’s always willing to help those people who are in need especially his family. I really consider him as a good leader because he serves as a role model for us youths. He serves as an inspiration for us to continue believing in our dreams that we can also have better lives in the future as long as we do our best at all times and should possess humility.

Melanie Quizon

She is a friend of my mother. I consider her as a good leader because I really admire her personality. She is such a loving daughter, mother and wife. She is working as a teacher in a public school. I consider her as a good leader because she serve as a good model when it comes to raising her children. She and her husband always doing their best just to sustain the needs of their family. They are raising their children not just in financial and moral aspect but also in spiritual. Despite of their busy schedule, they always try to conduct family worship so that they could assess their children when it comes to their spiritual goals. They are not only teaching their children to possess positive values but as parents they serve as their reflection on what they teach to their children. I commend them as a good parent. When I’m old enough to build a family, I want to raise my children that way they raise their own. Mrs. Quizon is not just a good parent but also a good friend who is always there to give encouragement when someone is down. She is a good listener at all times. Her leadership style is People-oriented type of leadership because she always thinks for the good of other people most especially to her family. In my own opinion, she serves as a role model to other mothers in our society. When you have a mother like her, I think that you are going to become a responsible adult someday because she’s always there to guide you in the right path. She is a mother who leads thru examples. What she is trying to inculcate to others mind reflects through her actions. In our Christian Congregation, I really admire their relationship as a family. They train their children to become obedient and friendly. She is a great example when it comes to parenting.

Based on what I’ve listed above, leaders are not just about guiding others to accomplish a task but for me I may say that a good leader should serve as inspiration to other people. They should lead through examples. In the context of leadership, the saying “Action speaks louder than words” is really important because as a leader we should always reflect and examine ourselves before teaching to other people. As a future teacher, I may say that as early as possible we should do our best to serve as a role model in our society because in the near future we are going to teach to those youths and it is really important that we should possess a good quality of a leader so that we can contribute a great impact to our students mind.
